What are Concrete Coatings, exactly?
Concrete Coatings come in many colors, sized-flakes/chips and shapes; the choice of coating material depends on the specific needs of the project. Options include epoxy, polyurea/polyaspartic, and more, each with its unique properties and applications. Polyurea (as opposed to epoxy) concrete coatings are preferable to epoxy if longevity, durability, safety and speed are prioritized:
Durability Polyurea is incredibly strong and flexible, even in a wide range of temperatures. It’s also highly resistant to impacts, chemicals, abrasions and UV damage.
Customizable: Our polyurea coating systems are available in a wide range of textures and colors. Custom color matching is available and vinyl chips can be custom blended. You can also choose between a high gloss or matte top coat.
Safety: Vinyl chips or aggregate add texture and slip resistance for safer environments.
Fast Installation: Our floor coating systems are installed by professionals who are trained to finish new polyurea floors in a timely manner – typically in one day! Because temperature is not much of a factor, year-round installations are standard.
Who should install concrete coatings?
Professionals install concrete coatings: experienced contractors or flooring specialists are often the best choice for applying concrete coatings. They have the experience, skillset and equipment/tools (heavy grinders, expensive vacuums etc). necessary to ensure a successful (and timely) application.
DIY Enthusiasts are not encouraged! Some individuals with the right skills and knowledge may attempt DIY concrete coating projects, especially for smaller areas or less complex applications, but for areas larger than 200 square feet, it is not recommended.
What is Needed to Apply Concrete Floor Coatings?
Preparation Materials Are Costly: recall that site & substrate preparation is an involved process requiring heavy machinery. Process preparations shall include concrete repair materials, primers, sealers, and any additional products required to prepare the surface; walk through the installation process mentioned on our website, here.
Safety should not be overlooked. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety goggles, and respiratory protection may be necessary. Note: epoxy floor coatings often result in allergic reactions.
Why Coat Your Concrete, Anyways?
Protection: Coatings protect concrete floors from damage, including wear, chemicals, and moisture.
Aesthetics: They enhance the appearance of floors, offering various colors and finishes.
Durability: Coatings can extend the lifespan of concrete floors, reducing the need for repairs or replacements.
When:
New Construction: Coatings can be applied to freshly poured concrete after it has cured sufficiently, usually within 30-90 days.
Renovation: Existing concrete floors can be coated to revitalize their appearance and improve functionality. Repairs may include: filling heaved concrete, cracks, chips & mossy/overgrown grounds.
Maintenance: Periodic re-coating may be required to maintain protection and aesthetics.
Where:
Concrete coating companies are abundant in Florida, but they’re found across the nation and elsewhere in the world. Pristine Pool Decks services Saint John’s County, as well as nearby counties including (but not limited to) Putnam, Duval, Clay, Flagler counties & the Villages. Pristine is also looking to expand to other Eastern Coastal locations, soon TBD.
